04 December 2012: Gide advises the Government of Cameroon on the Mbalam/Nabeba integrated mining project
Gide Loyrette Nouel, together with Patton Boggs LLP, have advised the Government of the Republic of Cameroon in connection with the Mbalam mining convention entered into between the State of Cameroon and Cam Iron S.A., the Cameroonian subsidiary of Australian company Sundance Resources Ltd on 29 November 2012.
The project, with a total value estimated at over USD 4.5 billion, is one of the largest and most complex mining projects with integrated transport infrastructure in Africa to date. It includes the construction of a dedicated deep sea port terminal and a 500 km heavy-haul railway to transport the iron ore extracted from the mines of Mbalam and Nabeba (Congo).
The mining convention sets forth the legal, tax and financial conditions under which Cam Iron S.A., the Cameroon subsidiary of Sundance Resources Ltd, will develop and operate the Mbalam mine, deep sea port terminal and railway in the country.
