07 January 2013: Gide, counsel to Groupe Chatel on the acquisition of Quartier Français Spiritueux Outre-Mer from group La Martiniquaise
Gide Loyrette Nouel has advised Groupe Chatel, a Reunion Island family group and major player on the spirits market in Reunion Island, on the full acquisition of Quartier Français Spiritueux Outre-Mer as part of a consortium with Adrien Bellier (Barau family), Terroirs Distillers (Picard family) and Unigrains. The acquired company was previously owned by the Compagnie Financière Européenne de Prise de Participation (COFEPP), a holding of the La Martiniquaise group, French no. 2 on the spirits market.
Quartier Français Spiritueux Outre-Mer, based in Reunion Island, in particular indirectly owns the brand Rhum Charrette, no. 1 on the rum market in Reunion Island and no. 3 on the white rum market in mainland France, Distillerie de Savanna, whose production capacity exceeds 50,000 hectolitres of pure alcohol per year, and Réunion Boissons, a wine and spirits distribution company based in Reunion Island.
This transaction is part of the sales required of the COFEPP by the French Competition Authority, following its acquisition of Quartier Français Spiritueux in February 2011.
