On 9 October 2023, in recognition of his pro bono commitment to the creation of the Polish Library Institute in Paris, advocate Piotr Sadownik, a partner in the Warsaw office of Gide Loyrette Nouel, was awarded a Bronze “Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis” by the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Professor Piotr Gliński.
The newly founded institute is the first institution to be jointly operated by the Polish state and a foreign Polish institution. Its aim is primarily to ensure the continued existence and development of the Polish Library in Paris, which has been active for almost 200 years.
Mr Sadownik was involved in the drafting of legal solutions, including the Institute’s founding deed, enabling the Polish state to assume guardianship of the Library’s collection.
The Polish Library in Paris was founded in 1838 by Polish émigrés. Its collection features more than 200,000 volumes and prints – including manuscripts by Adam Mickiewicz and first editions of Nicolaus Copernicus’s treatise “On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Bodies”, as well as an extensive selection of Polish art.
The “Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis” is awarded to individuals who are particularly distinguished in the field of artistic creation, cultural activity or the protection of culture and national heritage.
