Gide is delighted and proud that one of its associates, Sarah Whitley, has been selected as a Young Leader in the Franco-British Council Young Leader's Programme 2019, which "aims to deepen understanding and collaboration between France and the UK and create lasting bilateral dialogue at the highest level with a give back/give forward ethos at its core. Its objective is to build a generation of 21st century leaders who will keep the Franco-British relationship at heart and shape its future across all sectors of our societies and economies."
A British national currently based in Paris and working for France's leading international law firm, Sarah's sphere is Franco-British. Within the firm, she creates a link between Gide's offices in London and Paris, forming and fostering relationships with clients and colleagues on both sides of the Channel.
As much as for her involvement in Franco-British business relations, Sarah was selected as a Young Leader thanks to her compatibility with the give back/give forward ethos of the programme. As a keen marathon runner, Sarah has raised funds for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent by completing marathons in London, Paris, Budapest and Dublin; she has also supported this charity by providing pro bono legal advice as part of Gide's [ambitious] Pro Bono programme. Additionally, Sarah is a mentor for the Wedu programme, a Bangkok-based social enterprise with a mission to provide high-potential young women from underprivileged Asian communities with access to long-term mentorship and financing to complete higher education.
The Young Leaders programme was launched in 2017 and to date 57 Young Leaders have been selected. Coming from both sides of the Channel, all Young Leaders are following distinguished careers across a range of sectors, from sciences to arts, politics, education, defence, finance, technology, energy, law or insurance. Each year's cohort is chosen by a jury that includes prominent personalities from both France and the UK.
Congratulations Sarah!
