"While starting at a strong pace, the M&A market has suffered a significant downturn since the last quarter of 2022, fuelled as much by uncertainties in the economic climate as by a drop in investor confidence. This trend has continued into 2023: according to Refinitiv’s preliminary data as at 20 March,
M&A volume involving a French party reached $22.1 billion in the first quarter of 2023, down 59% on the first quarter of 2022. This is the lowest total recorded in 10 years. The number of announced deals fell by 43% year-on-year."
