1 August 2013 - Gide Loyrette Nouel, counsel to Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank ("Crédit Agricole CIB") on the sale of CLSA to Chinese brokerage firm CITICS
Gide Loyrette Nouel has advised Crédit Agricole CIB on the sale of its Asian and American brokerage business, CLSA, to CITICS Securities International Limited Company (CITICS International), a member of the leading Chinese group CITIC Securities Company Limited (CITICS). The USD 1.252 billion transaction is the most significant acquisition of a foreign financial institution (worldwide) by a Chinese investor to date.
This transaction is the culmination of almost four years of negotiations between the two parties.
It is also the second largest sale ever undertaken by Crédit Agricole, after Emporiki in Greece.
Gide Loyrette Nouel advised Crédit Agricole CIB on the entire reorganisation/disposal of its brokerage business (in particular, the sale of Cheuvreux to Kepler Capital Market), with a team composed of Guillaume Rougier-Brierre, partner, Sarah Stokoe and Philippe Huang, senior and mid-level associates, based in Paris, together with Gide Loyrette Nouel’s New York, Beijing and Hong Kong offices and with the support of Loyens & Loeff in the Netherlands. J.P. Morgan (Joël Chapellier and Jean-François Trecco) advised Crédit Agricole CIB on the financial aspects of the transaction.
CITICS was advised by Kirkland & Ellis (Nick Norris, Steven Tran and Chau Joey) and Rothschild (Philippe Le Bourgeois and Riaz Vayid).
