Gide Loyrette Nouel was founded in 1920. In 1957, Pierre Gide, Jean Loyrette and Philippe Nouel set up the first lawyers' association of the Paris bar. Today, Gide numbers some 550 lawyers including over 100 partners, working from 11 offices worldwide.
Pierre Gide opens his firm on Rue des Mathurins in Paris (transferred to avenue George V in the 1930s).

Lucienne Frochot becomes the fourth and first woman partner of the firm, until 1977.

Sights set on Asia: Gide is one of the first foreign firms to set up in China (Beijing), then Vietnam (Hanoi in 1994 and Ho Chi Minh City in 2006), Shanghai in 2002 and Hong Kong in 2006.
Gide sets up in central and eastern Europe, with a first office in Warsaw. Budapest and Moscow follow in 1993, Istanbul in 1997, Bucharest in 1998 and Kyiv in 2006.
Some 350 lawyers, including 66 partners, work for Gide.
Following long-standing experience in North Africa, Gide decides to open a first office in the region in 2001 (Tunis), followed by two more offices in 2003 (Algiers and Casablanca). The Cairo office opened in 2018.
The London office opens in 2003.
