Gide is delighted to welcome Wolfgang Müller to the firm’s Brussels office as Senior Counsel.
Formerly a senior German official at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade, Wolfgang is a well-respected expert in the field of international trade regulations, particularly on foreign subsidies and dumping practices.
Wolfgang worked at the European Commission from 1994 until 2022, conducting anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations before becoming head of the Policy Unit on these matters. He was also Acting Director for the Directorate responsible for trade defence.
During his years with the Commission, Wolfgang played a pivotal role in a great many landmark proceedings and legislative developments, in particular in relation to foreign dumping and subsidies – areas in which ambitious new European rules and practices have emerged.
The partners at Gide’s Brussels office and in the International Trade team have welcomed the appointment: “The essential challenges of reindustrialisation and transition require a level playing field for business throughout Europe. And so we are especially pleased to be welcoming Wolfgang to the firm, and more specifically to the team that handles matters of international trade and European economic security. With his help, we will strive to identify the best legal solutions to the significant upheavals our clients are currently having to deal with in their businesses.”
Gide was a pioneer in European and international economic law, setting up its Brussels office over 50 years ago. Since then, the firm’s international trade practice has gone from strength to strength, becoming a recognised market leader. Gide Brussels is also known for the excellence of its other two practice areas: competition law and EU regulatory law/advocacy. All three teams at the Brussels office work together seamlessly, as well as increasingly with the firm’s teams in Paris and elsewhere around the world, to tackle the emerging issues within the EU that matter most to businesses.
