Nomination | Senior Counsel
Gilles Briatta, former Group General Secretary at Société Générale and former top-ranking civil servant specialised in EU affairs, is joining Gide as Senior Counsel.
He will work closely with the EU Regulatory and Advocacy teams in the Brussels office, under Benoit Le Bret.
Briatta will also be involved in developing the firm's Finance and ESG practices.
Due to his expertise in EU institutions, he will primarily work on the firm's European law cases, where he will have great added value. He will also assist Gide's teams handling banking and financial regulation issues. His extensive experience as General Secretary for an international banking group allowed him to attain cutting-edge expertise in these fields, as well as in CSR aspects.
Having attended ESSEC, Sciences Po and the French National School of Administration (Ecole Nationale de l’Administration), Briatta then spent three years in Washington as part of the EU’s Delegation there, before joining the Permanent Representation in Brussels as a member of the Antici group. He returned to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004 as Director of European Cooperation, then joined the cabinet in 2007 as the Prime Minister's European Union Advisor and Secretary General for European Affairs, notably overseeing the French presidency of the EU alongside Sarkozy’s teams in 2008. In 2011, he joined Société Générale as Deputy General Secretary then became General Secretary from 2015. He was also the Group's CSR Officer until 2021 and Head of Compliance until 2017.
