As part of its pro bono commitment, Gide, alongside KOIS, has advised CARE France, AFD - Agence Française de Développement, and BNP Paribas on France's first Development Impact Bond in support of an ambitious pilot programme contributing to the health, education and independence of women in Ethiopia.
Drawing on active collaboration between several players, France's first Development Impact Bond and its related financing and grant contracts were signed on Friday 28 January 2022.
This will enable the programme aimed at combating menstrual insecurity (a factor that aggravates gender inequality, girls dropping out of school, and absenteeism from work) and contributing to the health, education and empowerment of women to be carried out from next spring by CARE France, CARE Ethiopia and ProPride, a local NGO committed to combating violence against women and the promotion of their rights.
This programme is part of a doubly innovative financing method: (i) the Development Impact Bond, a partnership between public and private actors to encourage the emergence of innovative environmental and social projects, set up for the first time in France for this project; and (ii) pre-financing through a bank loan.
Gide's team comprised associates Aude-Laurène Dourdain on aspects pertaining to the Development Impact Bond, and Marion Nicolas, on bank loan aspects, supported by their partners Hubert du Vignaux and Laetitia Lemercier.
The KOIS team comprised Juliette Averseng and Colin Godbarge.
The CARE France team comprised Pier-Paolo Dipaola, Thuy-Anne Stricher and Constance Deschamps.
The Agence Française de Développement team comprised Virginie Arnaud Le Pape, Katell Rivolet and Delphine Papaud.
The BNP Paribas team comprised Maha Kermane, Silvia Bastos Ribeiro, Virginie Grondeau and Thomas Haudecoeur.
