The document provides annual activity statistics for the private equity and venture capital markets of Central and Eastern Europe in the years up to 2017.

The data contained in this report takes a “market approach” whereby information is compiled to show activity in a particular country, regardless of the origin or location of the private equity fund managers, to give a more accurate picture of the overall investment trends and activities in the markets of Central & Eastern Europe (CEE).

For this publication, the CEE comprises Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine – or the countries with a total population of about 170 million and registering a total GCP of €1.5 trillion in 2017.

The significant findings from the CEE Statistics 2017 report include:

  • PE/VC investment into CEE reached highest ever level at €3.5 billion.
  • Total exit volume in CEE reached €1.27 billion.
  • Fundraising for CEE increased 46% year-on-year to €1.3 billion, including a record €360 million for VC.
