On 29 May 2020, a USD 200 million credit facility agreement was signed by Sierra Gorda S.C.M. with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego. The financing is secured by corporate guarantees issued by KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd and Sumitomo Corporation.
Gide's team was supervised by partner Dariusz Tokarczuk, and coordinated by associate Mateusz Gronau. The team also included associates Marta Karmińska and Paulina Surma from Gide Warsaw, and Sarah Whitley from Gide London.
Sierra Gorda SCM is the largest mining operation to be launched in recent years in the Antofagasta region in Chile, producing copper and molybdenum concentrate. 115,000 tonnes of ore are processed on a daily basis, producing 108,000 tonnes of copper annually.
KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. is one of the largest companies in Poland. It is a global producer of copper and silver with over 50 years' experience, and holds six operating mines in Canada, the United States, and Chile, as well as mines in Poland.
Sumitomo Metal Mining, founded in 1590, is currently the third largest producer of copper and the largest producer of nickel and gold in Japan. This company employs 8,766 people and has mining, smelting and refining operations all around the world, including in the United States, Canada, Australia, Chile, Peru and Brazil. It also owns manufacturing operations for semiconductors and advanced materials, among other business lines.
Sumitomo Corporation has been ranked in the Fortune Global 500 for 25 years as one of the world's companies leading global development. Founded in 1919, it is one of the eight largest companies in Japan. It has a global network and participates in various activities that include the sale of a wide range of products and services domestically, imports and exports, trilateral trade, and investment in local and international businesses.
