18 September 2012: Gide joins the Shanghai Bar and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Zhejiang Province
Gide is pleased to announce its membership of the Shanghai Bar and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Zhejiang Province.
The first Chinese Bar to open to foreign law firms, the Shanghai Bar is China's largest with more than 14,000 members. The opening of the bar to foreign law firms demonstrates the desire of the Chinese Ministry of Justice to engage these firms in debates on issues of interest to legal professionals in Shanghai. As a member of the Shanghai Bar, GLN can deepen its exchanges with local legal authorities and Chinese colleagues through conferences, trainings and consultations.
Fan Jiannian, a partner in GLN's Shanghai office, is also now part of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Zhejiang Province, in Shanghai. This province, located directly south of Shanghai, is populated by over 50 million people and has a GDP equivalent to Norway. It embodies the spirit of Chinese private entrepreneurship, housing 142 of the top 500 private companies in China - the highest score in the country. Membership of this Chamber of Commerce supports GLN's strategy of supporting Chinese companies (in particular, private companies) with their international development.
Both these memberships allow the Firm to significantly reinforce its relations with key Chinese business players, both public and private.
