Denmark-based global toy maker LEGO has inaugurated its new EUR 354 million plant, an overall greenfield project, in the north-eastern city of Nyíregyháza, Hungary.
Gide Budapest's Projects team, led by Eszter Kamocsay-Berta, spent two years preparing the construction of the ultra-modern plant. The aim was to expand the existing LEGO®, DUPLO® and LEGO toy manufacturing facility, based since 2008 in Nyíregyháza, while at the same time creating a modern 21st-century production plant that has a positive impact on both the local job market and the environment.
The new complex, equipped with high-tech systems, is located on a 100-hectare site, with the manufacturing area, built in under 12 months, covering some 122,000 m². The upgrade created 250 new jobs, which boosts LEGO's headcount to 1,500.
In the current economic and financial environment, the Hungarian Government welcomes the foreign direct investment of LEGO. The project has been prioritised on both local and national levels, with LEGO becoming a strategic partner of the Hungarian Government. The new plant's grand opening was celebrated on 25 March 2014 in the presence of the Hungarian Prime Minister.
LEGO was advised by Eszter Kamocsay-Berta, partner of Gide's Budapest office, and associates Gabriella Gálik and Márton Hajnal.
