Gide advises Emirates sovereign wealth fund Aabar Investments PJS on its partnership with the Algerian Ministries of National Defence, Industry and Investment Promotion
On Sunday 15 July 2012, three Algerian manufacturing companies for land-based motor vehicles were set up, as a result of the partnership between the Emirates investment fund Aabar Investments PJS, the Algerian Ministries of National Defence, Industry and Investment Promotion and the German companies Daimler, Deutz and MTU.
The first joint venture, located in Tiaret, will produce Mercedes-Benz light-duty off-road vehicles and commercial vehicles.
The second joint venture, located in Rouiba (Algiers), should eventually reach production capacity of around 15,000 trucks, cars and buses each year.
The third company will produce water-cooled engines, and will be based in Oued Hamimine (Constantine).
The Algerian Minister for Industry, SMEs and Investment Production, Mohammed Benmeradi, has applauded the importance of this partnership and the scale of the investment undertaken. It represents the most significant investment ever made to date in the development of the Algerian automotive industry.
Aabar Investments PJS was advised by the Algiers office of Gide Loyrette Nouel with a team led by partner Samy Laghouati.
