12 March 2013: Gide advises the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on the creation of the Nouadhibou Free Zone
Gide Loyrette Nouel, together with advisory investment bank Lazard, has advised the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in relation to the implementation of the Nouadhibou Free Zone. The Nouadhibou Free Zone was created by Law No. 2013-001, which was promulgated on 2 January 2013 by the President of Mauritania after its adoption by the parliament of Mauritania.
The Nouadhibou Free Zone aims to promote investment and development of the infrastructure in the Nouadhibou region by the private sector. The creation of this economic zone of development is expected to benefit the wider social and economic development of Mauritania.
Law No. 2013-001 and its implementing decrees are the institutional framework of the Free Zone. The Nouadhibou Free Zone Authority (ANDB-ZF) will be responsible for coordinating the creation of activity areas (dedicated to defined priority activities) and support areas (housing, offices, retail outlets and recreational areas). The development and operation of both activity and support areas will be allocated to public or private developers, through development agreements signed with the ANDB-ZF. The Regulation Authority will be in charge of monitoring and regulating the Free Zone.
The Nouadhibou Free Zone will enable any company established within the boundaries of the zone to benefit from an advantageous tax, economic and customs regime, subject to prior registration or approval, in line with best international free zone standards.
