Gide, partner of the Paris Arbitration Week 2023
We are delighted to be attending the th edition of the Paris Arbitration Week, which took place from 27 to 31 March.
On this occasion, we were pleased to host 3 events:
- The conference « Water challenges in Africa: the evolution of international water law at the dawn of its integration into economic law » (in French), organised in partnership with the African Academy for the Practice of International Law (AAPDI) on the occasion of the 4th Annual Day of International Law in Africa (JADA).
Alexandra Munoz, partner, with Laurence Boisson de Chazournes (Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva, Visiting Professor at the Collège de France), Makane Mbengue ((Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva), Valérie Levkov (Senior Vice-President Africa & Middle East, EDF), Patrice Fonlladosa (President of the think-tank (Res)sources and former President of Medef International – Africa) and Jean-Baptiste Harelimana (Lawyer at the Hauts-de-Seine Bar, President of the African Academy for the Practice of International Law) spoke about international disputes between public and/or private actors related to water access.
- The conference « Corruption Allegations in International Arbitration – a Sword and a Shield? », during which Sacha Willaume, counsel, has intervened with Veronika Korom (Professor at ESSEC Business School), Sophie Nappert (Arbitrator at 3VB), Guillaume Aréou (Senior Associate at Reed Smith), Jadranka Osrecak (Deputy Municipal State Attorney – Public prosecutor at the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Croatia), Markus Burgstaller (Partner at Hogan Lovells), Nikos Lavranos (Secretary General at EFILA) and Alexander Leventhal (Partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP).
The discussion covered:- the treatment of corruption allegations in both commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration,
- the recent case law from various jurisdictions such as France and UK to show the contrasting approaches to what is considered to be the proper degree of control of the annulment judges over corruption allegations.

- The closing cocktail of the Paris Arbitration Week, organized in partnership with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes & Investigations LL. This evening brought together all the partners of the event.
The Paris Arbitration Week is an institution organizing a yearly week of events aimed at connecting, whether in person or virtually, the worldwide community of arbitration practitioners, boosting rich academic debate and promoting Paris as the eternal home of international arbitration.
The ambition of the PAW is to remain the principal arbitration centre of the future, by highlighting the diversity, sustainability, social responsibility and innovation as fundamental values.
