Gilles Briatta, joined Gide Paris as Senior Counsel in December 2023. He works closely with the Regulatory and Advocacy teams in the Brussels office and contributes to the development of the firm's Finance and ESG practices.
Due to his expertise in European institutions and his knowledge of EU member States, he works mainly on the firm's European law and European strategic advisory files, where he has a high added value. He also assists Gide's teams on banking and financial regulation issues. His long experience as General Secretary of an international banking group has enabled him to acquire cutting-edge expertise in these fields, as well as in CSR aspects.
After studying at ESSEC, Sciences Po and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration, Gilles Briatta spent three years in Washington DC with the Delegation of the European Commission, before joining the French Permanent Representation in Brussels as Antici advisor. He returned to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004 as Director of European Cooperation, before joining the Prime Minister's office in 2007 as European Advisor and Secretary General for European Affairs (SGAE), overseeing the 2008 French EU Presidency. In 2011, he joined the Societe Generale Group as deputy general secretary and became general secretary from 2015, overseeing the legal, tax, public affairs, governance, coordination of relations with the European supervisor (ECB/SSM), security and insurances for own account functions. He was also responsible for Group CSR until 2021 and Compliance until 2017.
