Gilles Briatta is Senior Counsel in the Paris office's Banking and Finance team.
Thanks to his expertise in the European institutions and his knowledge of the EU Member States, he works mainly on the firm's European law and European strategic advice files, where he has great added value. He also assists Gide's teams on banking and financial regulation issues. His long experience as General Secretary of an international banking group has enabled him to acquire cutting-edge expertise in these areas, as well as in CSR aspects.
After studying at ESSEC, Sciences Po and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration, Gilles Briatta spent three years in Washington DC with the Delegation of the European Commission, before joining the Permanent Representation of France in Brussels as Antici advisor. He returned to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004 as Director of European Cooperation, before joining the Prime Minister's office in 2007 as European Adviser and Secretary General for European Affairs (SGAE), overseeing the French Presidency of the EU in 2008. In 2011, he joined the Societe Generale Group as deputy general secretary and became general secretary from 2015, overseeing the legal, tax, public affairs, governance, coordination of relations with the European supervisor (ECB/SSM), security and own-account insurance functions. He was also responsible for the Group's CSR until 2021 and compliance until 2017.
