Pro Bono: Guiding, supporting and defending

We support charitable organisations, causes and projects through our Gide Pro Bono endowment fund, created in 2012. We work with organisations that promote access to education, law and justice and help those most in need.

We provide them with funding or support in the form of skills sponsorship that best meets their needs. We choose projects that allow our teams to be involved over the long term and that encourage lasting collaborations.

Our commitment to corporate citizenship

The Gide Pro Bono endowment fund is managed by 15 lawyers who are members of the Pro Bono Commission.

It has two distinct areas of focus:

Financial support

The Firm is able to fund projects and provide resources for our chosen charitable organisations thanks to annual contributions from all of our partners. This financial support is allocated to organisations working to provide:

  • Access to law and justice
  • Access to education
  • Help for the most disadvantaged
  • 3 150 000

donated since 2012 when the Gide Pro Bono endowment fund was created

  • 15

Skills sponsorship

An extensive range of legal skills is made available free of charge for the benefit of causes identified by the members of the firm and approved by the Pro Bono Commission.

Gide’s Pro Bono projects have the unfailing support of the firm’s teams. Our lawyers can spend 40 hours per year (included in their target hours) on Pro Bono projects, whether providing legal support or donating their time.

Lawyers and non-lawyers alike, many colleagues are regularly involved in our Pro Bono activities (mentoring, charity football matches, reading guides, etc.).

Initiatives

  • Volunteer legal clinics

Every year, a dozen of the firm's lawyers work on a pro bono basis alongside legal advisers from the Droits d'urgence association. Our teams help people who are socially excluded or vulnerable with all kinds of legal queries. The association also receives financial support from Gide Pro Bono.

  • Copyright workshops

Since 2022 our lawyers have been running workshops for students of the Beaux-Arts de Paris. These two-hour courses are offered to students in various disciplines and taught by pairs of lawyers from the IP and TMT teams. Students are taught the basics of intellectual property, particularly copyright, to equip them for their lives as young artists. Gide Pro Bono also provides financial support to Via Ferrata, the preparatory class for the Beaux-Arts de Paris.

  • Our M&A team’s involvement

Our teams have provided support and advice free of charge to two organisations in order to ensure their continued existence. The team advised: - Planète Enfants & Développement, as part of the takeover of the Chemin d'Enfances association, thus uniting two organisations sharing the same aim: child protection and access to education for all. - ATD Quart Monde, as part of the takeover of its subsidiary ATD Quart Monde Réunion and in order to support the reorganisation of the organisation. Gide Pro Bono has also provided financial support to ATD Fourth World for over ten years.

  • Employment law legal support

Our lawyers provide pro bono support to a variety of organisations in the area of employment law, whether in response to specific questions or to assist with mergers between organisations. The issues we deal with may concern the management of collective statutes, assistance with staff representative bodies, employee recruitment, or the provision of workers to organisations.
